Discuss 4mm or 2.5 in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

because a ring final has always been standardised at 2.5 that is the norm, but as an electrician it is up to you to decide on the installation conditions and the cable size needed and certainly cost shoud not be a factor.

all depends on site conditions. remember all installations are different. do the cable calcs for the site in question and that will tell you your cable size. always works for me ;)

would it not be 2.5 radial on 20a breaker (up2 50 mtr sq)

4.0 radial 32 a breaker (75 sq mtr)

and still a 2.5 ring.

arn;t ring mains a bit old hat now? radial's the way forward!!!!:)

2.5 mm cable will be fine depending on the length of cable run? u'll hav to apply tempeture multiplyer when you use calculation this will shorten ya length of cable to meet disconnection times stated in the regs, if your ring circuit run of cable is upto 30m long tht should be fine as long as your usein a 20A type B circuit breaker if your usein 4mm cable u'll need 32A circuit breaker this will be within the limits of the times in the regs book and voltage drop, ring circuits are the best option rather thn radials if you installing many sockets:cool:
