Went to look at a house to buy few months back and no gas so needed all electric.

Re wire needed so looked into new electric heaters, ovens, showers, boilers etc.
Noticed supply cables to consumer unit about and cut out seem about 6mm and cut out was 60 Amp.
Was wanting to change to 100 amps or at least an 80 due to thinking at some time no doubt everything will be on and did not want to risk main fuse popping so called DNO and asked then can I change to a 80 Amp or 100 from the original 60.
I was told ALL cables in UK to houses are rated at 45 KVA.
Not sure the BGB cable size guide agrees with the amount of load.
So does this mean I can start using 6mm to feed 150 Amp and more ???????

I've just measured a DNO 25mm concentric. The center solid core is about 6mm Dia.

What worries me is an electrician thinking 6mm diameter = 6mm cable.

sounds about right. dia. 6mm so radius id 3mm, so csa is pi x rsq, = 28.5678.sq.mm.

dia. would be 5.64mm for 25mm sq.

The local council replaced all the illuminated street signs. A concentric off cut was just lay in the trench so I borrowed it.

Despite what some members think, if you know what you’re doing with amalgamating tape you can make a neat breakout without a HS boot.

This was tiny in a rural area and looked very very small compared to usual supply cable hence my call to the DNO this was why I queried it,
Prob should have said that in the original message but was defiantly the wrong size and DNO not interested in looking at it just told me regardless of size in UK all cables rated the same so I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this,
Maybe the original had been altered or messed around with but was defiantly too small.
As you have not seen it mate I'm sure you are suitably qualified to confirm what size it was ????????
After all why take my word for I'm only the person who has seen it?????
