Went to look at a house to buy few months back and no gas so needed all electric.

Re wire needed so looked into new electric heaters, ovens, showers, boilers etc.
Noticed supply cables to consumer unit about and cut out seem about 6mm and cut out was 60 Amp.
Was wanting to change to 100 amps or at least an 80 due to thinking at some time no doubt everything will be on and did not want to risk main fuse popping so called DNO and asked then can I change to a 80 Amp or 100 from the original 60.
I was told ALL cables in UK to houses are rated at 45 KVA.
Not sure the BGB cable size guide agrees with the amount of load.
So does this mean I can start using 6mm to feed 150 Amp and more ???????

Dear oh dear, that is more than likely a 16 or even 25 mm2 single core with the neutral as the outer core rapped around it

Read the rest of thread mate that's been commented on if you only read half a thread I imagine you only do half a job yeahhhhhaaaaa cowboy

This was tiny in a rural area and looked very very small compared to usual supply cable hence my call to the DNO this was why I queried it,
Prob should have said that in the original message but was defiantly the wrong size and DNO not interested in looking at it just told me regardless of size in UK all cables rated the same so I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this,
Maybe the original had been altered or messed around with but was defiantly too small.
As you have not seen it mate I'm sure you are suitably qualified to confirm what size it was ????????
After all why take my word for I'm only the person who has seen it?????

Then a photograph would have helped.

It begs the question, how did you get to see the size of the incomer?

If you actually look at a modern DNO cable the size is embossed on it.

Never did anything with it in the end as would have cost too much get involved with but just baffled by DNO approach no one seems to care

No one would care, because you’re talking absolute bollox.

BTW. Re your PM, I’ve not even started on you yet.
A genuine electrician I’ll help, a know nothing jumped up fool I won’t.

OK, so once we've taught this numb-nuts how to use a tape measure, who wants to give the diversity lesson?

The ONLY thing I'll offer in the OP's favour is that where you've got long splits coming off the older style TT cons, they can to the eye look a bit weedy.
