80A meets 1mm just for fun

Just for fun this afternoon I wired an old transformer with 3 turns of 10mm on the secondary. This gives about 2.4V when o/c. A foot of 1mm got attached you can see the result of about 10 seconds of operation. I've put it away for today but I am thinking about tormenting some old 6A mcbs tomorrow .

Great! This is how i spent my childhood...get yourself an industrial oil boiler igniter transformer and two lengths of 1/32" ms welding wire...get a jacob's ladder set up and smell the fun

Ive been on the lookout for an old microwave to get the transformer for the purpose and I managed to find one a couple of weeks ago. It's probably only 500W or so, but I hope to be able to get maybe 150A or so out of it. Plenty to test out if an MCB follows the curve in BYB . And then there's destructive testing as well ...

Yes - I used to have access to Variac at the machines lab. If anyone's got one they don't want I'd be happy to buy .

Ho Lee Heck - I'm not going to be able to fund one of those beauties, sadly. For me, 1kVA would probably be plenty

How much current will a 10mm2 conductor really take using various reference methods?? All educational of course
