80A meets 1mm just for fun

Raining and bored - so I've been annoying some B16 BS60898 MCBs. I've 3 to hand - a new MK and recovered Contactum and GE. I put 30A through them all and timed the trip. Results were : Contactum 40 sec, MK 50 sec and GE 60 sec. BYB has the B16 at 30A for 115 sec, if I'm reading it correctly. At least they did trip on the safe side of the standard value .

Try same again when they are located over a hot radiator !
(or some heated box creation )

Upright, they should be so lucky. The MK one should work at any angle .
It's a good thought, I'll update next cycle.

When only the worst will do
You have to appreciate that's a tuned length of flex there, just the right resistance for 30A. Like a proper bit of "destruct it yourself" it has lasted for 10 minutes and is now a bit toasty.

Hi - I repeated the tests with the MCB vertical (well, more vertical might be more accurate) and trip times were still the same, at about 1/2 those listed in BYB. If anyone has the actual BS60898 doc they might be able to confirm if there are min and max curves
