Could anyone give me some info onthe A.C.A test for becoming an approved electrician as i have got mine in about 6 weeks and dont know what to expect ? Not sure if this just applies to sparks in Scotland

Cheers

Another thing, there isnt anything simple if you arent used to doing it. i Spend most of my time problem solving and testing so they were straight forward to me. You have the books at the unit with you if your unsure of correct procedure. (regs ,on site guide guide to inspection and testing.) if you dont test a lot then i can see how it would be daunting as you have someone watching most/all of the time. i didnt like the supervision part or risk assesment part because if you passed your fica ages ago like me then you forget the right way /generic answers they are looking for. depends what you do from day to day at work.

Hey guys... See when you did the insulation resistance test did you do the board as one or each circuit individualy from the load side of the breakers? Also with safe isolation did you check that the circuit was live before isolating and locking off.Cheers for any info

Thanks for the quick reply mate....so where all breakers on and did you test from the load side of the main switch. That's how I was gonna do it but looking at gn3 it looks like they do each circuit individualy.

you test the board as a whole. in the real world i have never been able to do this cause always something hidden or unable to remove lamps etc but in the booth everthing is straight forward so just test from load side of mainswitch. remember to disconnect the neutral from the bar with the wee slide disconnector bit because its pme and will give false readings when testing to earth. i think the best way to isolate something is to prove its live first but i think most people want you to isolate it first then prove its dead. i think if you were to prove it is live first then you know you are isolating the right circuit because in the real world we know things arent always marked up right or at all and something may be off when you test it and be fed from somewhere else then become live automatically when your working on it. i think they want you to limit any live testing to a so they prefer you to trust the circuit diagrams etc and switch off before you remove the cover. in my test the installtion only became live when required to do the live test ie ze pfc efli so i could not have checked it was live anyway (that i would have done at work).

im not sure, i never used it lol. my understanding is when you get to this point he.ll ask you a question, the answer is a BARRIER. he.ll then show you how to attach the sheeting to the booth, its clear plastic imo you look through it with your hands going under it. safer? who knows!
