hi all

I,ve got a curious one for yee.
went to view a job this evening, the client wants a fuse board upgrade.. yeah ok no pobs!!!!
the other thing is he wants a CLEAN power supply to his music system. reckons current drawn by other appliances on the circuit causes noise on the sound system.
I kinda understand what he,s talking about I,m thinking it may be similar to a clean earth for computer system or am i way off????

im thinking a 16amp radial might help a bit.

WTF!! Nearly ÂŁ580 for an RCA Lead.

Have you seen the ÂŁ65/metre knitted singles for wiring 'ring mains' or the ÂŁ25 each. 'Superfuse' 13A plug fuse?

Then of course the ÂŁ1K+ IEC (kettle) leads.

His non-electrical stuff is pretty amazing too, the expensive lumps of wood to stick under your speakers to make them sound better are a treat! (This does have an effect on subs, acoustic compensators are sometimes used in theatre for this but they are the same random offcuts of ply we use as packing for rostra and bits of scenery)

I had an argument with a guy about HDMI leads.

"It's a digital signal mate. It either works or it doesn't."

"No no no no, i had a hdmi lead that was really bad quality, then i bought a 3m lead for ÂŁ150 and it was amazing."

"No it wasn't."

"What do you know."

"I know how to crimp a hdmi lead and fault find, i also know its a digital signal and it either works or it doesn't."

.......

In fairness, you're both right. A digital signal relies on a portion of the traffic being time sync'd according to whatever particular algorithm is being used, so if the cable quality is causing packets to be 'lost' due to drops then more error checking and repeat transmission requests occur, which in sufficient quantity won't happen otherwise the master sync gets out of place, so lost data packets can occur and the equipment just has to skip that bit (those intermittent bars of interference on your freeview, for example).

I think there is a big difference between and broken hdmi lead and a cheap lead. If the customer has flecks of missing pixels or a possibly grainy image then yes it could be down to packet loss but then that would be a faulty lead and there is a clear issue.

If the image is fine (i.e. a working lead) the image won't get any better by buying an expensive lead. at least not to my knowledge it won't!

Without specialist analysis you'd never know if 'the odd packet' was being lost or not due to a poor quality lead subject to interference. HDMI works at around 10Gbps - that's a heck of a lot of 1's and 0's to make sure arrive in the right place at the right time!

Thats exactly what the op doesn't want to install. Supply needs to be as low impedance as possible.
Utter rot! The internal power supplies drive the whole lot at DC ffs, the issue is voltage drop caused by inductance spikes long enough to cause the internal power rails to drop - and that's unlikely. Looks like you'll be selling him a power plant, then. Unless of course what he's hearing is emf interference, and that's where the TX comes in.

Besides, as a competent sparky you should know what's wrong with your statement.

Agreed, meaning the human eye can't tell the difference, ergo: don't buy ÂŁ150 leads.

Have a look at PWB Electronics stuff (Peter Belt) if you want extreme audiophile silliness! Cream electret, foil stickers for your door frames - it's worth a read. They even send out free samples of the foil if you fancy trying it :) Daz

To restore a significant temporal (time) symmetry to any person's senses, it is necessary to acquire one photograph which was exposed when the person was young and another photograph exposed when the person was older. Each photograph is placed, individually, into it's own clear plastic bag. The two plastic bags, each containing a spaced time photograph of the same individual, should be placed inside the freezer compartment of the domestic refrigerator. This will create a most unusual beneficial phenomenon. After placing the two separate photographs within the freezer compartment, either live or recorded music should be played within the listening room. A significant improvement to the musical sound should have taken place. Removing the photographs from the freezer compartment should produce an immediate adverse response if the music is played again. Replacing the two photographs within the freezer compartment will immediately restore the beneficial improvement in the sound. It should be noted that it is not necessary for the photographs to reach the low temperature of the freezer compartment. This experiment demonstrates that within the freezer compartment, there exists a high degree of symmetry and that this symmetrical condition is imposed on the temporal asymmetric condition of the two chronologically spaced photographs and is, in turn, imposed on the senses of the human subject of the photographs. It is unfortunate that the vast majority of people, including many who work in science and technology, do not appreciate that a photograph functions within the quantum mechanical world.

If this is some of the Sh!t they believe I'm not surprised they will throw money at snake oil.
