A job coming up in a couple of weeks which started out as "I need a rewire". Went round to check it all out for a quote, IR fine all round, cable condition very good, everything terminated nicely at the accessories, all run in split oval. The main work to the house is a kitchen and bathroom refit along with some other stuff. Youngish couple just bought it. I asked why they thought a rewire was needed, no surprises with the answer "that's what the other electrician said". I aksed if he'd said why he thought that? "because it's old" came the reply. He hadn't even opened up the board, let alone have any fronts off or get a meter on anything.

I priced the job as a CU upgrade with the usual faffing with the kitchen wiring, which incidentally is as tidy an installation as you're likely to find. Neon switched fuse units above the worktops, unswitched sockets below etc.

It will genuinely be a shame to take this off the wall and replace it with a plastic fantastic.

Surely they only want a rewire because they have been told they need one? Are we supposed to give our honest professional opinion or just be money grabbing gits?
this is it....a `professional` has given them the lowdown....probably on how dangerous it was...Whooha....probably on how dangerous it was and how it all needed ripping out....and start again.....`caus its your safety at mind here`...lol...
you can just hear it now.....lol....
god, if it passes visual inspection (and i suspect that this one will judging by the standards of that board work)...if it tests right, theres supplementary bonding in place and it meets disconnection times etc......
