Good evening all.

I am looking to add two double outlet switched sockets to an existing ring main. It is in a bedroom. At present the circuit is 2.5 mm t&e with a 32a mcb in cu.

I want to break into ring at back of an original socket in bedroom and in-line crimp the new leg in and run to new sockets then back to original socket. Question is will I have to upgrade the mcb to include rcd protection as it doesn't have any rcd protection at the moment??

entech, your method looks fine. put heatshrink over the butt crimps, but you really ought to know that all sockets up to 32A for use by general persons need RCD protection. whether you just protect the new sockets that you fit, or protect the whole circuit, is your call.

Does make you wonder if the OP is a DIYer if he has to ask questions like this.

Unless they are in conduit or buried deep enough.?
