Hi Guys,

I've just fitted an Bosch Induction hob and its not working, I have run 6mm cable from CU with a 32amp breaker, I have power to the cooker connection unit, but. . . . once I flick the breaker, my RCD on the CU trips.
I have tested the wiring and the Neg is showing as live also, but only when the hob is connected??

The hob is out the box and i'm now fighting currys for a replacement. Can anyone help shed some light on this problem just so I have some info before tearing into Currys and Bosch.

Many Thanks

Stevie, I did not intend to rip you apart or discourage you from using the forums. It's just that what you were saying did not make sense, so I asked some questions. Am glad to hear you got it sorted, and that you are investing in a better test instrument. And hopefully you have learnt something along the way.

No offence taken and thanks for the comment, I know how forums can be and when you get trolls and people looking for a rise etc. Trouble is with text, it can always be taken the wrong way and I felt a bit 'stupid' if that makes sense. Its all cool and yes, have just invested in the correct test equipment. ;)

i had a feeling you were using a screwdriver tester thats why i asked how you carried out your test as you said youve sorted the problem being the neutral connected wrong to the rcbo etc good to hear your investing in some tester they are worth every penny as any spark will tell you they get used everyday.

an example now of how you could check polarity with your new testers at the hob again would be to test between line to neutral youll get 230 on the led displays then between line and earth 230v again and between neutral to earth and youll get no voltage on the led display, this isnt a proper test procedure to test polarity on final circuits but good wwhen your investigating a fault like you were atleast you can prove youve got correct polarity and supply to the hob and then youd investigat further and bingo found the incorrectly installed rcbo happy days
