Advice on starting a course please

F

French Liam

I am a novice electrician, 30 years old and apparently too old for college appretinceships. I have been learning and fitting basics, lighting; switches and sockets; multiple sockets; extraction fans under supervision and really enjoy the work.
Been looking at courses open to me Is a BTEC advanced Diploma level 3 worth studying for on internet after my day job finishes. Its with ICS International corresspondance schools for 500 pound over a year and equates to an A level .
Apparently this can get me a trainee electrician/electricians mate job. or should i save up and do a course with OLCI or BTSC or equivalents?
Any help or advice would be really appreciated

Cant rate them high enough certainly worth giving them a call. I travelled from Norwich it was worth the effort passed a few courses with them now and looking to do more with them.

Be careful with non-standard qualifications - ICS in particular seem to have a whole lot of courses which don't actually translate to anything very much in the real world. Very often, you can gain the same, or better knowledge simply by reading a good book, and a heap cheaper too.

It's also worth bearing in mind that electrical qualifications differ between France and England - and it is worth considering where you want your qualification to be valid. In turn that will let you know what options might be open to you.

Even with Uk qualifications, you'll find there are stages to go through before you can become a qualified electrician in France.

If you are looking at a UK qualification, there are a number of courses you could do, depending on where in the UK you are/would be, but either way, a vital part of qualifying as an electrician anywhere is practical experience - actually doing the job.
