Right, small problem.

I started a job about 6 weeks ago, though an agency, i spoke to the guy at the time, and because i didt have IPAF, (or some bull****) they wanted to pay me mates rates (9.50) anyway i needed the money, so i took the job, anyway they paid me electricians rate (like everyone else on the job) of 14 quid, - in hind sight, i should of said something but there you go.

Anyway they put me back down to 9.50 about a fornight ago, and i recieved a phone call on monday afternoon asking for the 650quid+ back.

so ive jacked, on there repayment terms id be on 5quid an hour after tax for a 47.5hour working week, which quite frankly is a ****ing joke.

My question is, Ive already lost my week in hand and monday, do you think they will try and bill me for the rest of it?

Why is knocking your pan in day in and day out so ****ing complicated.

Des, an interesting read, if I only skimmed over it. How does your reading of it lead you to believe that this will put an end to them? Without wishing to imply any advocation of their business model, can you elaborate your specific gripe with them?

I haven't worked for them, but I was discouraged to say the least to here of their charging you to be paid. That is my main problem with them as told through a friend.

Hi SparkyJoe. The way I see it at the moment all agencies have a free reign to do what they like. They play one guy against the other, advertise rates that are then subjected to charges and fees @ 22.5 % and play god in our industry. There is always someone who'll take the job we may refuse. I recently spoke up for a guy in your position who was suffering financially and physically, due to "Bully Boy" tactics by the site foreman, and I was sacked. Another spark started next day. I joined the union as an apprentice and am still my own activist it seems at 57. I have seen my Official today to investigate the blatant exploitation of our trade. If you or others that read this and are union members contact your local official its a start, with view to highlighting our concerns to all parties involved in this issue which is country wide. Take care

Were you both working for the agency?

Good read guys, sorry to hear your situation sparky joe, these agencies seem to be the only possible way of gettin on sites these days,(i know)they ask for jib ecs etc and then want to pay under the rate, if more people joined the union rather than agencies maybe we'd have a few legs to stand on, but sadly people see union members as militants or a threat, but the union is there to protect the rights of hard working men!!! dont let these *******s get you down, im sure there screwing enough blokes like us to earn there money back in no time!!!

I'm surprised it was Meridian, always found them to be reasonable.
Either way I'd drop the ole troosers and show them the big hairy moon, a bit of the old up yours Delore's as well wouldnt go a miss.
Tell 'em to go away, if it gets to court the waters are to muddy for any judge to award against you.

The only way I can see out here is if the client specified an electrician, and paid an agency to provide one, which they did, then only passed on mate's rates. However, the OP agreed to the offered rate.
