bad news boys
have been on the phone to labc today and directed to the planning portal and from there to the domestic compliance guides for ventilation and part f.
oooh great..
from there is section five which includes a 6 page cert to be filled in with the sort of questions we have to answer on a installation cert.
measured airflow..
competent persons scheme reg number../??
amount of undercut on doors for air transfer
condensate connections

this counts on all work covered by the building inspector notifed after oct 2010.
not new builds
the one im working on is a attached garage turned into a granny flat..bedroom lounge shower room.

oh and the results must be notifed to the labc within 5 ...yes five days of testing.
after all its a mater of life and death.....airflow.....not like electric than can wait for 25 days to notify.

so far after an hour or so of looking on the net i can find 1 model to by or rent.
airflow lca 301....rent £70 a week....buy..£450...

id just love some one in the know here to give me a clue.

how had the need for us all to get a £500 tester and most likley get trained for measuring airflow sliped by us without anyone noticing??

all replys greatfully recived

Seems to contradict what's been discovered previously then:

"Domestic Ventilation Compliance Guide: This guide prvides detailed guidance to help persons comply with requirements in building regulations for installation, inspection and testing when installing fixed ventilation systems in new and existing buildings."

er no..
you need to look at the list of what counts as a single level extention and it seems its a car port or covered yard/walkway only.

anyone know if the nic are aware of this i would have expected to find something in connections..maybe ill try the nic help line.

The implication, or so I read it, was that extensions such as loft extensions (not at ground level) ARE included?

Sorry I haven'thad time to read all the replies, but...... The air flow meter readings are to be taken by a person (LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) qualified) who can interpret the readings and apply those reading to the respective tables, thus coming out with a conclusion of ‘ is the fan fit for purpose’?

Size of room, purpose of fan, air change rates per hour etc...

Just putting the air flow meter reader near the fan and writing down X meters persecond is not the answer!!

Is an airflow reading required X meters downthe flue? At the point of exit? Is the flue the correct type? Is it for a bathroom or a COSHH store?

Once again sorry for muddying the waters

Hmm, it could definately do with some clarification on who is responsible for it. As usual the approved doc F makes no mention of this, just that it has to be done and notified.

this maybe the case...
but why?
how come there are no web sites stuffed with part f testers
and collages doing part f cert courses
and nice big PART F stickers for pour vans (£14.99 each + vat)
come on paul....spill the beans

Not sure how they sneaked it past you but an anemometer doesn't cost that much for a basic one. I have one of these on my vehicle and it works well (see AVM-01 in the link).
ACDC Dynamics - Electronics Catalogue: Page 208

The list price where I am is about ZAR1000.00 which is about 95 of your British squids.
