Just been out to a local farmer whose alarm is going off.

Sounder goes off intermittantly and when sounding is not consistent in its tone. No tamper or alarm indication on panel (Citadel XRI).

Have disconnected power and battery and suggested that the panel has a problem. Just reading manual and apart from resetting to factory settings the only other thing I can think off is replace the panel.

Any other ideas.

When you say intermittently do you mean there is a regular time period between it going off or is it completely random?
Did you check that the battery in the panel and the sounder are in good condition?

Alarm going off randomly and sounder not giving a consistant tone, ie. slows down, speeds up, lower tone/higher tone.

Battery is about 7 years old, internal sounder not going off with external one.

i'd suspect a problem with the hold-off supply to the ext. siren. possibly siren tamper switch/es or a cable/termination fault.

If only external sounder is activating, then the bell box is faulty, or connections are corroded check wiring, internal battery will need replacing after 5 years.

up her in the impoverished north, i use a car horn to load it up and a MM to measure the voltage on load. cheap as chips and no scroat is going to nick a car horn.
