If your worried about this because you want to sell your house then don't get too concerned its up to the buyer to have the electrics inspected but it will aid in your sale if your have some existing cert's confirming the condition of your electrics new or old. There are a lot of very competent electricians out there still doing work up to the17th that don't notify or provide a cert.... basically cutting costs but this come with obvious risks as you can't be certain if hes a cowboy or not... but having said that there are thousands of electricians out there providing certs for there own work which is below standards poor and sometimes unsafe.... I suggest if he cant supply you with a cert then you explain your are having a conditioning report done on all electrics and if anything is high-lighted regarding the work hes done then you will expect him to rectify it his response to this will show you if he is competent or not, you can of course go down the route of making a complaint against the guy but this can get very complicated and could cost you money ..... I would personally get a full electrical conditioning report done as this will help with the house sale and if this shows up any issues with the alarm spur I would then persue the installer .... this way you wont fall out with him unless his work is shoddy...... Now don't misinterpret me here if your not selling the house yet then request the necessary installation cert from him to confirm his work, I only suggested having an independent condition report on all the electrics if you are selling the house this would save a lot of hassle chasing him up and you would have confirmation if his install was to standards.
