I

Inteificio

On a distribution board last week in a farm house, I saw 2 core 4mm SWA with the sheath terminated by having a couple of strands in a terminal block.

A photo would save a thousand words, but I found out on that day that my camera phone is not waterproof =-(

The other sparky on site said it is fine if the Zs is in, which I accepted at the time.

Then I got thinking, the Zs will make sure the fuse trips, but how can you guarantee conductor safety while the fuse is tripping?
We had a similar issue in our factory where a spark proved that a distribution circuit would blow in 4s, within the limit. However I pointed out the wires would be melting the insulation after 1s.

I can do the calcs to prove how hot that conductor will get, but that is not sparky level maths and I know the guy who installed it won't be able to do that.

So my question is:

When is it ever safe to terminate only a couple of strands of the armouring on SWA when it is being used as the CPC.

This is quite important as I am going to be politely confronting the guy, and I don't want to risk causing offence if I am wrong. I will be the first to admit domestic is not my speciality.

I thought Prozac was a known placebo? Makes you feel strange, so medical effect is assumed, so you make yourself feel better.

So in theory it should only make you worse at electrics if you want it too.

Boys! It's all fine, calm down. We'll just wait for Mr Inteificio to cycle his mountain bike to his first building site in his fancy lycra, then get his pencil and calculator out and tell the foreman how it should be being done whilst asking where the cappuccino machine is.

How long shall we give him? 10 mins??

I was thinking the latter, but I guess it depends on how stubborn / self opinionated one is. Mind you, a 3' scaff pole is a marvellous device for sifting the wheat from the chaff - though as I was advised by the NICEIC themselves, make sure you tie an old rag around the end you hit them with as that way you can just throw it straight into the fire and get rid of the evidence.

I must admit you are still coming across as a bit of a dick, but your comment was so painfully close to the truth it made me smile.

I’m on Fluoxetine. Along with 18 other sweeties a day to keep me going.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It isn't much fun.

I started with that, graduated to the highest dose, then went on to Seroxat. Next thing was a full bottle of Jack Daniels, 2 litres of that cheap strong supermarket cider & a full bottle of sleeping tablets.

Woke up in hospital & then got sectioned for the next 3 months.

Been ok since 2005 :)

Fantastic!! Because if knowing your trade, being trained and qualified, experienced, doing it all over the globe and making a tidy income doing it make you a dick, then no wonder all the girls smile at me!! Man, call the Guiness book of Records and stand aside Jonah Falcon there's a new champ in town.

What DOES interest me, though, is have you stopped to wonder what it is that makes you so easy to stereotype?

No, that is not what makes you *****, that is your personality. Do not confuse personality with experience.

Everybody stereotypes, only a fool does not realise they do it.

What particular stereotype caused you to whinge?
