Discuss AM2 Testing in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

I've got my AM2 in Liverpool on Tuesday, good luck mate. GN3 and OSG aren't very good for 3-phase testing procedures, for example insulation resistance and pfc/psc test methods aren't described at all. For the IR tests you need to test between 10 combinations same as safe isolation. PFC can anyone explain how to do this on a 3-phase board? Also on the schedule of test results what ref. method do we put down?
For PFC just consider the board as three single phase installations (that just happen to use the same earth and neutral).

For each line conductor you test the earth fault current and the short circuit current.

The results should be similar.

You would record the highest value you measure of the earth fault currents as the prospective Earth Fault Current.

For the short circuit current because the Line to Line short circuit current will be higher than the Line to Neutral short circuit current, but you have measured only the Line to Neutral short circuit current (because it will be dangerous to test Line to Line unless the tester is suitably rated for this), as a rule of thumb you double the measured value of the Line to Neutral Current and record the highest of these values as the prospective short circuit current.

The reference method is the one used for the installation of the cabling for the relevant circuit:
Enclosed in conduit in thermally insulating wall A
Enclosed in conduit or trunking on a wall B
Clipped direct C
Direct in ground or in ducting in ground, in or around buildings D
In free air or on perforated cable tray E
In free air or on perforated cable tray F
In free air, flat spaced by 1 cable diameter G
4D5 (Twin & Earth) cable above a plasterboard ceiling covered by thermal insulation not exceeding 100mm in thickness 100
4D5 (Twin & Earth) cable above a plasterboard ceiling covered by thermal insulation exceeding 100mm in thickness 101
4D5 (Twin & Earth) cable in a stud wall with thermal insulation with cable touching the inner wall surface 102
4D5 (Twin & Earth) cable in a stud wall with thermal insulation with cable not touching the inner wall surface 103

Good luck with your AM2.
