as many times as it takes for you to understand what C&G are asking which could just about be anything lol

they have there own language

Hi Gary

Please find attached a short 2391 question paper.

The revision session will be held next Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 6pm.

Please complete this paper and bring your answers with you. Try to do it under exam conditions – timed (1hr 15mins for a ‘half’ paper) and without using any references.

The tutor can then see how you are answering questions under pressure and try to point you in the right direction.

You should already have your head back in GN3! – please make a note of what you feel are major issues for yourself and we will try to address as many as possible.

The revision session is intended to get you focused but it is really down to you to put the work in and you should be well under way with revision – doing small amounts at a time is much more effective than trying to cram it in.

Don’t use internet papers – they are often incorrect. If you need more please ask, but try not to overdo it on these – you will never get those questions again, it is more important to understand GN3 and how to apply it.

Just to remind you, the exam s at 6.30pm on Thursday 11 August 2011

Would anyone agree with this statements?

mate the C&G change the questions every time but some of them do come up again as they did in mine but beware there will be new ones that are not in old papers but the more you know the better and past papers give you a feel of the questions and how to interprete and answer accordingly

I guarantee some will be the same especially the poorly answered ones from last time so check C&G chief examinors report on areas cndidates failed and learn these as they are more likely to come back up

describe the process for carrying out an earth fault loop impedance test (Zs) on circuit blah blah

state two conditions which are confirmed by the test instrument before the test in a) can prooceed

1. You have a 230/400v supply?
2. You have correct polarity?

List three methods of achieving compliance if any of the circuits fail to comply (Zs)

1. Automatic disconnection of supply using 30mA RCD
2. By installing supplementary bonding conductors to the circuit
3. By increasing CSA of circuit?

state in sequence the first three tests to be carried out on completion of a newly installed three-phase motor circuit

continuity of protective conductors
insulation resistance
polarity

ignore the three phase motor bit and treat it as a new circuit?

You can also use 'changing the type of protective device ie. type c to type b

an existing electrical installation is to be tested and inspected before the tenants move into the property

one practical example of an item to be recorded in the extents/limitations box

circuit five outside lighting inspected only, no testing carried out

where are the ip codes located, there is a table for them somewhere, i got bs7671, gn3 and osg in front of me and cannot find it

Google Electrical Safety Council

On the PIR itself there is a brief explanation of the 4 codes too.

IP codes. NOT PIR codes.

IP Codes

The first number signifies protection from solids
0: No Special Protection
1: Protected against solid objects up to 50 mm in diameter
2: Protected against solid objects up to 12 mm in diameter
3: Protected against solid objects up to 2.5 mm in diameter
4: Protected against solid objects up to 1 mm in diameter
5: Dust protected
6: Dust tight

The second number signifies protection from liquids
0: No special protection
1: Protected against dripping water
2: Protected against dripping water when tilted up to 15° from normal position
3: Protected against spraying water
4: Protected against splashing water
5: Protected against water jet spray
6: Protected against heavy jet spray
7: Protected against the effects of immersion
8: Protected against submersion
