Anyone Know What This Is?

Hi All,

I was stripping wallpaper today in my hallway.. When i came across this.. Some kind of Square box?

When i touched it it gave me a shock.. If i turn the breakers off for the doorstairs lights then its no longer live? ANyone know what it can be?? Or anymore info?

looks like an "unused" light switch position given by what your post says.

redundat cable not used and "stuffed" as usual in wall! chip plaster away and get it terminated properly!

if in any doubt give a local spark a ring! quick fix job rather been safe than sorry for future times! no more than £35 to fix!

When i put my voltage tester on about on the wall below it.. about 30cm x 60cm is live?

So are you putting one probe onto the wall 30cm below and the other probe to earth? What voltage reading are you getting.

No Volts at all...

On my tester.. Im getting the following lightering up..

and the letter L & R Light up?

Yeh they were lighting up on tester? just so that you would know what im getting when i put it on the wall?

basically is a WARNING sign that lights up to indicate potential difference!! suggest you turn power off and chip the wall out and unearth your hidden treasure!
