Anyone rate this drill?

I'm a makita fan all my power tools are makita, always have been
However last year I burnt out my cordless (holesaw too big, my fault!)
And I had to get another asap ,
So I went to screwfix and bought a dewalt 18v brushless etc, and I think its performance has been as good as the makitas with the plus side being the batteries are a lot cheaper eg 3 AH is £50.00 versus £120.00

? a 5ah makita is £99 3ah are £50.

besides makita batteries have been the same for years so you dont need to change every couple years (i got my 458 £79 inc vat body only)

Dude where are you shopping? 3.0Ah are only £60! They were £120 when they first came out!

Ok my bad, I haven't had to buy any for a while! this was a price I was quoted last year and having bought replacement makita batteries previously I knew a pair or trio were usually more expensive than sometimes buying a new drill!

i bought mine from fastfix, i got 4ah for £200 a couple years ago and flogged two to a mate.

i got my 451 from them as well

I've had 2 of the 3ah makita batteries fail on me n I took them to a local tool shop and had them replaced on a warranty claim each time, they took the old battery off me and gave me a new one there and then, that was back when they were 120 quid a pop

Makita for me aswell, had the makita 458 combi but it failed after 6 months of use and I need some new batteries so bought the

Makita DLX2040MJ set with 2 5amps batteries been. Looking good so far. ​

? how did it fail after 6 months?

i can honestly say ive only had one major issue with makita gear, had a faulty sds (manufacturing issue, the fear selector poped off)

since makita had a look no problems

looking around for a new drill as mines bust....

anyone brought anything from these before looking at possibly getting the dewalt?

I killed two of the combi drills last year (not the brushless ones). The impact drill though has worked great with beaver bits or augers on hard wood joists for several years.

if I was buying again I'd by Bosch professional or Makita

Run all dewalt. Got 985 3 speed xrp 13 m metal chuck combi drill. Good drill bit heavy compared to smaller ones. Drills 13mm hole in 10mm steel easy all day. Only prob chuck got damp wet and started slipping. Dewalt dealer fitted cheap chuck $20. But register gaurantee on line to get your 3 year warranty.

I have 2 drills just now a Milwaukee fuel combi and a metabo quick.
the Milwaukee has a little more grunt I feel
the Metabo is more versatile as it has a removable chuck and angle attachment.
i would also look at Panasonic as the last drill I had had the best batteries of any drill ive had
but the drill lacked a bit of torque for blunt sparky bits tbh.

You'll have to go a long way to beat the Milwaukee or Hilti ranges!!

Basically you should be buying the best tools you can afford at the time. Don't over stretch yourself buying power tools that you can't really afford, it won't do you or your business any good!!

I have to agree with engineer 54 i have got the 18 volt Milwaulkee heavy duty combi cordless, use it every day & have had no problems at all. It has out lasted every other cordless that i owned. I have had it for about 4 years & the batteries are still going strong I got disilusioned with the makita batteries not lasting with mine, but i do like their corded range
