Does anyone recognise the switch at the far right-hand end of this consumer unit; the one marked 'LIGHTS' ?

Is it an MCB or a switch? [ElectriciansForums.net] Anyone recognise this MCB/switch?

Thanks

Both Wylex and Crabtree (and maybe others now) do a direct 17th compliant replacement skeleton CU, that fits straight into these old Mantel metal cabinet enclosures. This would be the best way to go, totally pointless trying to replace old MCB's and other protective devices.... The tails should of been installed within the channel that you can see at the side of the cabinet. Normally, well in most of the Mantel cabinets i've seen anyway, ...the DNO's cut-out and meter is installed where the retro fitted RCD is now sited.

For those interested, these Mantel units are circa early 50s to late 60s early 70s. Most were fitted to council housing and flats etc!!

I think the ban is an "effective one" in that the British Standard they were made too was revoked and there are no figures for them in 7671:2008 (Not sure about 7671:2001 though) which effectively bans them as you cannot work out disconnection times etc...I know Wylex haven't made them in at least a decade, possibly longer.

They are 32amp 60898 Wylex breakers though.

So that CU pictured was part of a 15th edition install ??? I would certainly hope not, If someone will cobble a CU together like that I have to wonder what the rest of the installation is like and what hidden disasters are waiting to happen. I don't just condemn anything but that installation looks older than 15th edition
one i was on....not that shower of sh**
