Is anyone using PayLeven (or similair) to enable them to get payment from debit cards there and then? I saw them at Elex and keep getting emails to register but I'm of 2 minds as to whether it will pay or just be another overhead.

Thanks mdh, having had a couple of cheques bounce and some Veeeery slow payments, anything to make taking the hastle out of getting the money from their mits into mine is obviously be good. But I don't have an iPhone and I am a little wary of a company that wanted my bank account details but didn't actually have their Android phone device ready (at least that was the case then). Be interested in how your provider's device works for you.

Very good, limited to max ÂŁ100 until account is verified. Verification is a bit of a pain but no worse than getting a card reader from your own bank so all in all worth getting. My customers are now getting used to paying on a Ipad some customers look a bit surprised that technology is getting this good. However my cashflow has improved 7-10 days to get money into my account far superior to sending a invoice out and waiting 30 - 90 days to get money. It is also good as people are requesting more work to be done as they think they can spread the cost over a period using their credit card rather than putting the work off until they have the funds saves any embarrassment. So good for business makes a small company look more professional. People also feel more secure in purchasing services using a credit card. To get your FREE reader see sumup.co.uk/go/sumup the site is saying it is time limited so worth getting while you can.

I'm using Payleven now, only one i've found which allows you to take a Visa payment using chip&pin. The others have to send a message to your customer with a link in it, they follow that link and, so long as they've got a smart phone, data coverage and registered that card to make on-line payments, you get your money. What a faff! The only other method is to use a merchant service terminal, and that is an overhead I can do without. Payleven for me is 2.5% per transaction and no other fees, being able to take payment there and then is worth it. The merchant service terminals have pretty high costs AND a % per transaction!

Started a similar topic a tew weeks back got some great alternate ideas which I'm now using but I still fancied trying some kind of credit card payment system....

I'm just waiting for a free swipey thing from sum up, I was going to try pay leven but they now only offer the chip and pin device which you have to purchase.
If I get enough interest I think I may well purchase a chip and pin...

Have you had much interest in customers paying but card Partypest?
Is there a limit on transaction amounts with the chip and pin device?

The sumup and izettle etc are no good if you want to take payments from Visa or Visa Debit cards, it's just unrealistic. The Payleven chip and pin device is a Bluetooth rechargeable thingy that you just hand to the customer to do their thing with. I've used it loads of times now, and it just works and it costs very little in charges. Customers love not having to get the cash or find their cheque book and I love not having to go to the bank!

Just had a customer who's commissioned a load of work and now cannot pay.

After six weeks of waiting for payment, I saw an advert for Payleven and asked the customer if he could pay by credit card. He could! Happy days I thought.

Bought a Payleven reader from Screwfix. As the leaflet with it says:

In this package you will find your new Chip & PIN card reader and charging cable. Together with our free app, you are ready to start accepting payments!

Except I can't. And now the customer's gone off again. God only knows when I will ever get paid.

I obviously rang Payleven to complain (and when they eventually answered), they told me that accepting instant payment doesn't always happen.

ME: "But what about the claim that I can use it straight away?"

PAYLEVEN: "Well.....that's marketing isn't it!"

ME: "So you're saying it's alright to tell lies in your marketing? What exactly are you saying here?"

PAYLEVEN: "Well...sometimes you can take instant payment...it's not a lie......what if you bought a train ticket....and it was er, ......advertised as from ÂŁ20?"

ME: "Eh? What are you on about? There's nothing misleading about that. I'm actually talking about your marketing which clearly isn't true."

PAYLEVEN: "Have you moved house? It, er, could be that."

ME: "Yes,..... I moved over ten years ago. I'm on the electoral role. My limited company is registered here - check at companies house. My bills are sent here. In fact, everything is registered here. But that's irrelevant, isn't it? Why isn't the card reader doing what it claims it can do?"

PAYLEVEN: "Well... it is sometimes possible. Can't your customer pay in cash?"

ME: "Eh? Can't your card reader just do what it claims? That's why I bought it after all."

And on and on and on.......

Upshot is, no money from the customer yet and a good few quid down now on top of that, as I am now the proud owner of a card reader that doesn't actually work. If you wan't to own a useless piece of technology, whilst at the same time be patronised by a customer services department who aren't empowered to solve problems, then this is the item for you.

Furious TBH. If they were a local company, I would march round there, right now, and shove the card reader up their Marketing Manager's..........well, er....you get the gist of it by now, I'm sure.

Any other suggestions for getting some use out of a non working Payleven card reader gratefully accepted. I'm currently considering using it as a door wedge...
