Hang on, the implication here is... Instead of spending my time and effort in due diligence with reputable accredited companies, deliberating and arriving at a decision then awarding the contract.... All I *really* needed to do was, hire some scaffold, source some panels, inverter and sundries wholesale, lash it all together in a neat, tidy, conforment manner... then... pay this guy ÂŁ500 quid and Rob's yer mother's brother???
And there was me thinking the DECC and Government were the biggest pimps in this industry!!...

hmmnn, unfortunately the chances of you lashing it together in a way that conforms is limited, I've seen the results when people have tried installaing their own electrics!
Even the savvy ones breach the regs.
Also it would need part P certification and you can't certify someone elses work under part P, and when it all goes wrong and falls off the roof or the roof leasks who ya gonna call?!!!

Got ya, thanks for the clarification... Glad to see it's not quite that simple but that's how it was coming across (to me) previously...!

Andy, I think this joker also includes Part P notification in the price, cash only I expect, its a proper 'my big fat gypsy PV install' (minus large breasts and pineapple costume)

Sorry Gavin, the breasts are small and the costume is a cocunut.
Part P not included. Your spark must be part P and do the install, your roofers must have been on a course and everyone must be insured. You must provide all documents to prove as much (as per MCS).
You show me where it says you cannot MCS an install. How does an existing installation pre FIT become elligible for FIT? You don't reinstall it!
This service is for people who were in the process of obtaining their MCS, not idiots or cowboys, that is why the work is checked and the paperwork must be in order. This is NOT a pay your fee and get your certificate (unlike REAL and other so called quality trade bodies).

Pre-existing systems now registered for FiTs did not require MCS registration. They were either registered for ROCs (which didn't require any MCS certification at all, but had a deadline of being on the ROC register by 31st October 2010) or were MCS certified by the installer at the time of installation (for systems that were grant funded under the LCBP). Plenty of DIY PV installs are on the 43.3p FiT rate because they just happened to be installed in the window between 15th July 2009 and 31st March 2010 - none of these needed to be MCS certified. Anything installed before 15th July 2009 is on the 'ROC transfer' rate of, currently, 9.4p whether it had an MCS cert at the time of installation or not.
