I noticed that Hse has been doing a campaign about Asbestos and I was wondering how often do you guys come across a property that has Asbestos in it?

Also how do you guys deal with it?

If you're starting a new job do you ask the owner if they know of any asbestos or anything?

WRONG MINIMUM RATING OF P3

We have just cam back from a 1 day course at

Asbestos Consultants, Environmental and Health & Safety Consultants UK

Half face masks and fitted to each of our faces not just a generic mask
A bit of a EVERYTHING CONTAINS ASBESTOS but equally informative

Jamie

No,not wrong.....the rating is not to do with efficiency at keeping stuff out, but how long the mask can be used before cleaning or disposing. As I said for day to day use i.e knocking a couple of holes in artex coated ceilings P1 is ok. If you come into frequent contact a higher rating is better P3 being the highest.

:)

Sorry to dredge this up but is there a way to identify Asbestos? We are looking at a house that has a boiler in the kitchen and a covered insulated flue how can i tell if its asbestos (i think it is bulit in 70's) and looks flue original. What do the tests cost and how much to you need? We would want to remove the flue and boiler (currently in the kitchen) flue runs through first floor and into loft its a \0/ shaped cross section
