Hi Guys

Just doing a bit of research and I wonder if I can get a guide on how you assemble the brass glands

More specifically - the gland comes in two parts, do you generally assemble the small part (with the thin nut) onto the enclosure before you put the cable through or do you make up the full gland assembly onto the cable before offering it up to the enclosure?

Many thanks

Charles

There are a lot of imponderables to start with,
Cable size
Location
Space
Type of enclosure
Lots more I'm sure

As above, it entirely depends on what the easiest solution is for the job in front of you. The larger the gland, the more bearing the situation has on which way round you assemble it.

And Pete, imponderables is my new favourite word, cheers. :)

You're welcome, good one isn't it? the long words come from working for HMG for a long time got plenty more to spring on you.:laugh:

And quite often a gland comes with more than 2 parts. Only BW glands (indoor use) come in 2 parts.

5 parts if you include the nut, banjo, and sheath. :49:

Hi,

Generally, I would attach the male part of the gland to the enclosure first, then cut and prepare the cable and fix the back end of the gland to the part already attached. Hope that makes sense.

Regards.

Where's the option for completing the gland, then you go to slide the shroud up only to realise its still in your pocket because it was frozen solid?

That's why you should always carry a roll or two of self amalgamating tape in your pocket! :-)
