Arranging my first assessment with Elecsa. One of the jobs I am showing them is a CU change, I have heard they like to have a route around inside the unit, I obviously want the CU isolated and the problem I have is my tails are not on a double pole isolator! Will this mean I have to call out the local electric board to remove main fuse again?

The guy from Elecsa who assessed me on Thursday was more than happy that i'd isolated at the consumer unit isolator and wasn't bothered about an external isolator on the tails at all....think you'll find they only want to ensure you can prove you know the proper isolation procedure before they dive into the unit.

It is possible different assessor's have slightly different ways of course but i shouldn't worry too much as they're more than aware an external double pole isolator from the DNO isn't always available.

safe isolation can be achieved by switching off the main switch in the CU. obviously, the tails into the main switch are still live, but that applies to 80% of houses in the country.

The incoming tails to the cu being live will not be a problem at all!!
Isolate and lock of the main switch and all will be ok.
In theory you'd be highly unlikely t be able to touch live parts if the tails are in the terminal properly.
