Hi Everyone

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct Forum!

I carry out maintenance at a Caravan Site, the site has an automatic barrier, I've never had reason to bother with it in the past as its never caused any problem!

Anyway, the barrier stopped working completely. (it works by swiping a card over a reader, barrier goes up, car goes through, barrier comes back down)
Did a little investigating work and soon found that the Inverter was at fault.

The Inverter fitted was the Telemachenique Altivar08, spoke to our wholesaler, who advised that Telemachenique had been bought out by Schneider, and a direct replacement would be sent...

Schneider ATV12H075M2

I've swapped it over, gone through the settings as per barrier operations manual, and come across a slight problem..... The barrier will go up on the swipe of the card, but will not come down again!

If I run the inverter manually, the barrier happily runs up and down without a problem.

Any advice would be appreciated
 
There is, but the barrier automatically comes back down regardless of whether a vehicle passes or not. If the barrier starts to drop and a vehicle comes onto the pressure pad, the barrier should raise again.
 
Is there dip switches on the controler to set it to automatically come down some you can change to operate so you can give it a pulse to go up and another pulse to go down or one pulse to go up then auto close
 
Is it swipe in, swipe out?

Or swipe in , then Auto detect vehicle and barrier up for out?

If so is there an inside sensor that's not triggering DOWN when the vehicle passes outwards or not set up correctly in the Altivar?
 
Although I haven't had the priviledge of working on the barrier you mention I assume you will have a lift signal which you say works, followed by a timer close signal into the reverse terminal on the inverter, this may be prevented due to the pressure sensor been faulty or the cable itself having a break.

What exactly was wrong with the other inverter, did it have an error code or was definately nacked?
 
Thats my worry, I'm not sure if anything else is knackered or not! My customer says the barrier was working fine one day, the next day it was not.

The inverter was deffo knackered, power applied and nothing on the display whatsoever!
 
Is this driven of a control card, you need to get the destruction manual if the connections are not marked and check input and output voltages at the various terminals.. its a matter of understanding the sequence of events and relating it to the inputs and outputs on the control card.
 
Connections on both inverters were identical, so I just swapped like for like, went through the inverter menu as per barrier manual.

I wasn't referring to the inverter, that just gives the motor power with certain monitoring and control, the signal wires that tell the inverter what to do are either driven off a control card for the barrier or possible a more crude control of individual relays and timers etc.. I have seen both methods but most now tend to have a control card which will incorporate your delay close timers etc and other settings.
 
They all work in various ways... but the route systems are the same.

You have a VSD which is basically just a control and monitoring system for the motor, it only runs when it received a Forward/Reverse command.

These commands are sent from the control system, how this system is set up varies, but will have some sort of monitoring system waiting for the open signal ( from the card reader or over-ride if one is wired), I assume the barrier will either work using some form of cam system and limit switches to get the barriers open and close positions. You say it auto closes after a set time, so there must be a timer also as we know there is a pressure sensor so that will be given priority to the close command. The above could all be in one control card or made up of several various independent items - this will be subject to design and model.
 
It could be one of many things but first to check:-

-Incorrect VSD setting meaning it cannot recognise the reverse signal, you need to understand your inverter and the connections to its control terminals plus any settings you programmed into it.
-VSD set correctly but not receiving its close signal, this could be down to several possible issues of which I cannot narrow down as barrier control design varies so much.

If you can identify the wire that give the drive the close command then you can test it for a voltage when it should be timed out and closing if a voltage appears then your drive is set up wrong if not then its time to work out how the whole control system operates.
