to get the ball rolling i sub for a sparks who gets regular work @ÂŁ120 per day.

whys that then? im doing my level 2 now starting level 3 in 6 weeks and thought electrician was a smart move even though it's stupid hard to get any site training. If I was an apprentice again I would choose a different career path.
There you go then mate. Take one step forward with eyes closed and jump right in!!! You've been conned fella, loads of us have. The Government just wanted to massage the employment figures. If we had thought about it, we'd have known all along. Where was all the work that required every man and his dog to become a sparkie going to come from in the first place? Do you know what, you should SERIOUSLY consider moving courses NOW. The construction industry was at one time the only way for a working class lad to earn a decent wage - but NOW we're fighting against half of eastern europe and constant downwards spiralling wages; that just make it not worth the game.whys that then? im doing my level 2 now starting level 3 in 6 weeks and thought electrician was a smart move even though it's stupid hard to get any site training.

There is no way attending night college for afew years is equal to apprenticeship. I still work for the firm where i served my time, im now 24. There are a couple of guys on the firm who have taken the night school route, and there not bad lads. But because of there age, on first apperiance on site there assumed to be of a higher/more experianced electrician, and they probably dont have half my qualifications, as much experiance, and have been doing it half the time i have. Thats what gets to me about this trade!
I can understand that but for me and im sure others in my college class there is no way we could start an apprentice because we are used to the wage we are picking by working in the day and to take a gamble to switch jobs for an apprentiship would mean either selling my house or wait for the baliffs to chuck me out for non payment of the mortgage.
so we use the college to get the qualification and then hopefully fingers crossed we land a job in the trade, but to be honest im doing this course to gain knowlege for myself if I get a job afterwards which pays either the same as im on now or more then its a bonus.
I heard the statistics for students who finish the course and actually land a job is 1.5 out of 20!!
wish I had done this 18 years ago, ha that just make me sound so bloody old [/Qoate]
Do you know what Nifty, I'd even doubt them figures mate - 'ONLY 1.5 OUT OF 20', in this climate. And to make matters worse fella, Can you see things improving in 2011? I wish that I'd become a hairdresser now lol.
