No doubt this might sound a bit ---- to some but I think its a fair question: Back boxes - I as I'm sure most people have built up quite a collection over the years. When you look at them there seems to always be a pattern that the M3.5mm adjustment lug is on the opposite side of the box to the earth lug. When you look in a back box then to me common sense dictates that the makers "stamp" in the base of the box be visible and the right way up to read when installed. If I do this with the Appleby I'm looking at then the adjuster will be on the left and the earth lug top right. A GET PLC one I have puts the adjuster on the right and earth lug top left. Also I like to have the earth symbol "the right way up". I always prefer my earth fly leads to be in the BOTTOM corner . I figure that even if left totally loose over time it would have a natural tendency to gravitate down and you would get some "earthing" at least. If in one of the top corners and loose I have this irrational fear that it could "fall" out. Yes I know we're dealing with solid core wire for the most part but still........ Is there any standard or protocol for this? I'd just like them all to be the same" A bit OTT on the thinking maybe?

I'm now officially worried, because all my plate screws MUST go vertically for tidiness, and if there is any kind of marking on any cable then it HAS to be layed uniformly. Even if it's then buried in the dirt for a hundred years - it's the principle!!!

my college tutor would always tell us if it looks good it probably is, meaning if you take the time to make it look neat and presentable it is probably going to be a good job all round

If it was going to be plastered, Id keep the lug at the top, saves on cleaning.

+1 on screwheads vertical.

Also...how many use domehead screws to fix back boxes...?

Ive taken to using the nice chamfered square nuts left over from gutter bolts as washers when pozidrive screws are supplied. If its been chased uneven Ill put the SDS on chisel to start so all boxes are level, if its really bad Ill put render behind, sounds obvious but ,sad to say, a fair few cant be bothered.
