Dont suppose we could have a new category for basic questions. I did a 3 year apprentership with a sparks, am fully qualified but there are still some things i dont know which may appear basic and would like to be able to ask them without being judged or have my training insulted.

Any takers?

Speak to Jason S (Super Moderator) as hes on here all the time and has a lot of say and control of whats happening but it does sound a good idea to have a beginners section as it may avoid some un called for comments and judgements. We all start somewhere :)

Although this forum has been very welcome and informative I have found that there are certain persons on here that do judge you and poke fun by sarcasm at you.
I have certainly sought information elsewhere so as not to look like a prat that doesnt know the answer to some simple questions
I think it would be very helpful. FWIW

Don't worry about that.

The written word can sound very different to the spoken word.

Thinks can often read a certain way but if they were said out loud they wouldn't seem as bad.

I doubt there is anyone here who deliberately pokes fun at others.

We are all at different levels, and what might seem like a difficult question to one person could be seen as easy by somebody else.

They're only easy if you know the answer!

Are you really Chris Tarrant

Ok chaps here is the deal.

This forum is for EVERYONE and anyone who needs help either DIY newbie or fully qualified, time served etc etc.

Sometimes, posts do read entirely different to how they probably sounded in the persons head, however, it is will known that forums are tricky to get "emotions" across successfully, hence the use of smilies.

If any of you feel that you are being intimidated by anyone, then either report the post or PM me, Dave or any of the mods and it will be dealt with accordingly.

the problem would be that everyone would have access to the "basic forum" otherwise you would have no one to answer the questions and you will always get someone who thinks they know it all

I can't see that as a problem mate.At the end of the day, someone has to start somewhere, you should be able to ask a question on this great forum:Dand get a civil reply, regardless of your experience. There will always be a question that needs answering and someone to answer it,otherwise what are the point of these forums.

Something else that happens a lot on here is a question gets asked by a "novice" for want of a better word, they get a lot of "get a qualified sparks in" answers, now, either it is for all people or qualified.
I though when I signed up to this it was for people in the trade rather than the man that connects all the blues to gether and all the browns together on a sunday

Sparks the forum is for everyone but when someone comes on and it sounds like they havn't a clue what they are doing, yea they will be told to get the qualified electrician in for their own safety and everyone elses safety. Remember electricity kills and the average diyer shouldn't be touching it in the first place, but we all like to save a bob or two don't we? im not saying this is correct though

Agree, but as you can see from Jasons post it is open for all but then novices DO get slagged off which must be offputting. personnally I would like to see a forum like this to be split up into 2 categories, one for the proffessional and one for Mr DIY
