Bathroom Extractor Fan (Zone 1) Help Please!

Hi all,

I need to change my extractor fan which is in Zone 1, I have found a extractor fan as below for Zone 1 that does not need a separate transformer, as long as a RCD is present. Will the current RCD's be sufficient? I know the RCD is working, as I connected the wires wrongly when testing the old fan and it flipped.

Any advice will be much appreciated, thank you!

The rcd is of the correct rating.

fan in zone 1 should be IP44 or better. your IP45 will be suitable, subject to RCD protection and any other regs; that IET have dreamt up.also anything has got to be an improvement over that old fan

it depends where the extractor fan is fitted. is it near the shower head.
plus blanks miss from that c/u front.

It would be better to get a sparky to check it over.
Once it is installed the proper tests will be carried out after with a tester.

Just caused the RCD 'flipped' doesn't mean it is working btw.

Thank you for all the prompt replies, the consumer unit is just for a studio flat.

Does it need a new dedicated RCD from the fan to the consumer unit? If so, does that mean removing all the tiles and chasing all the walls through the flat and hallway to reach the consumer unit?

looks like you only have perm live and neutral connected at the mo so you need to check if the black core is connected at the other end to trigger the new fan on as the old one has a humidistat and it looks like it wasn't connected

From what you are asking why not get an electrician in to fit it and give the circuit a once over. The rcd you have is adequate presuming is operates within correct parameters.

There's a lot wrong with that. For example exposed live parts at the distribution board.

with wetward10 here. get an electrician in before you spend unnecessarily and/or present a danger to you and yours.

From looking at a picture there is no way of knowing, an electrician can carry out some simple tests.
