hello
i just wanted to see what everyone thinks to Clarkson and evans?

im 25 with level 2 + 3 2330 and 17th edition
they said it woud take three years to do the aprenticeship and get my nvq. starting on a low 180 a week for the first year and a little more in the 2nd two. im taking a massive pay cut

but in the future i will have an NVQ and am2 so it will be worth it

thanks dave

You get paid ÂŁ250 quid a week there as an apprentice and a chance to earn a bonus every month. There hours are very long but you will become a very skilled domestic electrician. Go for it!

Hi Dave,

I too am about to start my apprenticeship with them on the 9th March & im 39.
As the others have said that the ÂŁ2.73ph is just for the 1st year then it goes upto what ever your NMW is. As long as you get on a good team then you should hopefully get bonuses also.
I know the 1st years wage per hour is low but the way I try to look at it is: this difference in per hour covers the cost for training etc, Hopefully we will qualify for working tax credit top up due to low wage?

Are you up at Gloucester Ibis the week of the 9th?

OOOO I must have an upgrade then due to my old age, hope its not a old peoples home lol. Their letter confirms staying at the Ibis but no breakfast as we can get a free breakfast at Clarkson Evans. Personally I don't care where I stay as long as its clean.

Hang on a minute here, the OP claims to already hold C&G lev 3, /17th ed, so what's all this about an apprenticeship?? Why would he need to duplicate qualifications he already holds at a 1st year apprentice rate FFS?? All the OP needs here is NVQ3 and he'll not get that legitimately, if this company is a large house bashing company!!!

Something somewhere just doesn't sound right to me, ...unless i'm completely missing something here??

I can't see why he wouldn't be able to complete his NVQ3 with them. When doing blocks of flats etc they still use tray, trunking, SWA,conduit, etc.

No idea what this company actually does, never heard of them to be honest, just going by post 2.

Acquiring an NVQ3 isn't an apprentice type course, and shouldn't be classed as such. This company sounds to me as though it's taking the proverbial P***, as i'm bloody sure they will be using the OP as an electrician at apprentice rates of pay, rather than as an apprentice/trainee....

i cant see why it would take 3 years to do a NVQ. im still thinking about it, i am on a ÂŁ24,000 salary at the moment. its a massive pay cut and ive been saving for a mortgage as well so those plans will be put on hold. thanks for the help ive got to give me decision on monday

OP you should definatly go for it. I was just reading their website and employee case studies. They have a lot of older trainees. I know money will be low but reading their site they seem to qualify within 2 years so it ain't that long at all in the scheme of things. I have heard of them before, they pick up loads of work for the national house builders but I also heard that their teams (1 fully qualified and 2 apprentices) wire two houses a day, so you will be incredibly efficient at the end having literally wired hundreds of houses.

My advice is stay where you are, this company is taking the preverbial!! Keep your eyes looking out for other opportunities to gain NVQ3.
