Been offered an aprenticeship with Clarkson and Evans

hello
i just wanted to see what everyone thinks to Clarkson and evans?

im 25 with level 2 + 3 2330 and 17th edition
they said it woud take three years to do the aprenticeship and get my nvq. starting on a low 180 a week for the first year and a little more in the 2nd two. im taking a massive pay cut

but in the future i will have an NVQ and am2 so it will be worth it :thinking:

I also heard that their teams (1 fully qualified and 2 apprentices) wire two houses a day, so you will be incredibly efficient at the end having literally wired hundreds of houses.

I can only imagine the quality of the installation of those two houses a day.... and that's what's classed as a recommendation these days is it?? . If that's the case, you'll end up an incredibly efficient cowboy bar none!! No-wonder the UK's electrical industry is on it's knees....

Not really, no different to 1980's housing boom electricians. If you have wired the same house type again and again then it is like groundhog day. Better than just handing someone tools and fetching / carrying for three years. Our industry is fine thanks, how is it in China?

Is it, i think you'll find it's anything BUT fine!! Who cares about China, that's there problem...

lol !! ...That may have been your experience, but mine was anything but fetching and carrying for 3 years!!

It ain't anywhere near even half a loaf!! Would YOU entertain working as a lev 3 electrician for a couple of quid an hour??

But is he really an electrician? Or does is he just an electrician on paper? If he lacks practical skills then take the opportunity, if he is already working as a spark and on £24000 a year, well why is he even contemplating it.

That's the sort of money that you'd pay a snotty kid just starting out, or a electrical trainee!!

And the answer would be an emphatic NO!!

i cant see why it would take 3 years to do a NVQ. im still thinking about it, i am on a £24,000 salary at the moment. its a massive pay cut and ive been saving for a mortgage as well so those plans will be put on hold. thanks for the help ive got to give me decision on monday

Your already doubting it so that doubt will grow. No doubt youve worked hard to get where you are saving for your mortgage etc. The NVQ is not about being able to do it as quick as you can.. you have a 3 year limit on doing it. I spent a solid year doing it and had it done by the time i started my level 3.. my employers were very pro active and always helping me along taking photos of me installing which was good of them.. if you have the variety of work you can cover what you need to. If you can answer the " where do you want to be in 5 years question" youll be able to answer your question on monday. Good luck

im gonna take it. At the moment i work in quarries fitting flow and level insturments and i lack a lot of domestic electrician skills. With this oppertunity i can see myslef being a better skilled electrician with experience and in 5 years hopefully earn 30,000+

What skills would they be, they don't call domestic, house bashing for nothing!! The skills you have gained in industry far outweigh anything you're going to pick-up in the domestic sector. Set your heights a damn sight higher than the domestic sector and you could go far!!

Dave , I can not see why you would want to go from a reasonably specialist job working in quarries , with ( I am assuming ) the possibility of other job opportunities in this sector . To working with every man and his dog ( most of them now trained less than your average toddler ) in a sector of our industry that has been pillaged beyond redemption !?

Seriously, stick at where you are now.
You'd be insane going into domestics and you'd be bored out of your skull within a year!!!
