Ive got a full roll of it somewhere, cant seem to find it though :)

Dont even joke you lot!!! I swear i have already been asked for "Wireless Sockets" on one occasion by a yuppie that couldnt be told that they were a physical impossability

The mind boggles it really does

why? I disagree. The swa will rust at the glands. Not as easy installed as the hituff.

I priced some of that hituf type cable and it was more expensive than swa:eek:( don't know if was just that supplier) and it still needs protection . Get the shrouds on properly and i don't think there would be too much of a problem -you could always put a little smear of grease on the overlap of the brass.

must have been your supplier. 1.5mm 3 core hituff is not exspensive. Shrouds on tight and grease will not stop the swa from rusting. Tried that. Hituff clipped to a wall will not require any more protection than swa and it is easier and quicker worked with.

Sounds like Hi tuff cable is the best option,
can anyone suggest the cheapest place to buy the cable, quick google search doesn't show much, not many places that sell it?
Thanks

as would swa

SWA as such would not need rcd protection, eg where running to a submain, equally as in this case to fixed garden lighting. The sub main, say in a garden shed on a TT would need rcd protection but not the armoured cable supplying it. If the cable was supplying outdoor power sockets for portable equipment they would need rcd protection, but for fixed garden equipment rcd protection is not a requirement. An ordinary cable, eg non armoured, supplying the outdoor fixed equipment in the garden would need to be rcd protected.

edit : not trying to be provocative - its just what i think is correct, would be interested to know if i am wrong.

Screentuf is actually smaller diameter than Hi-tuf so looks like pyro but without the need for glands etc. This looks good in black or white depending on wall colour and can be used with P-clips (as per pyro) thereby looking the nuts without the expense of pyro. I think we pay around 80p / M so not bad for general outside stuff................. Or NYYJ, although this is larger but may well be cheap as it's like swa without the armouring which you wouldn't need as you aren't going underground.

Problem is using conduit/trunking etc is all adding to the cost that they can not afford. As the circuit is rcd protected, can I not clip the cable direct to the wall?

Just tell them to give you a call when they can afford it!!!!:) If you are using T and E you should really clip it to the wall, it would probably need UV and mechanical protection.
