Hi guys,

I'm 28 and looking to become an electrician, I was an apprentice at 21 but was not fully focused and wasted the opportunity only working on site for about around a 8 month, but now I'm looking to go back.

I'm in retail management currently with a young child and a wife so would it be better to go the apprenticeship route or become a electricians mate/ improver?

In September I am going to do a level 2 course in the evening to help with my chances of being more employable. Any advice would be great.

I would ring round all your local electrical contractors and get a feel for who is employing and who is looking for some adhoc help etc
