hi guys, anyone used one of those BG consumer units? seen them advertised fully loaded for 50 quid! and a customer im pricing for a board chamge has insisted on one because they "look nice and glossy" lol

they are ok, had some faulty breakers and RCD's, the earth and neutral bar screws are very tight, and the tails from the MS to 2nd RCD get in the way i find. although they are cheap, and much better than the other cheap ones i've used so i suppose i can't complain that much

fitted a few of em....
no probs at all......theres more room in em for RCBO`s..(unlike electrium)
i would recommend that anyone should do themselves a favour...and try em out...
there a good board these....

I mentioned this in another post I bought the shower CU but the RCD would not work so I returned it (RCD Only)to screwflux and suggested that they give me a single 63A 30mA RCD and so I could return the one in my hand so when changing it I noticed a different build quality the one from the shower CU was different with regards to the test button as it was bright orange and looked cheap ie like a childs toy made in china the single one was a better build and the button was duller orange and more solid now the thing is they are meant to be identical units yet there was clearly a difference between them.

By the way the single RCD worked ok

thanks, i have seen them advertised for ages at 50 quid. i have to agree with the customer too, they do look good
how they look is important yes....
but how they install is equally important.....
as is how they perform in service....last thing you need is the call ...about 3 weeks down the road..lol....

I'm retired but trying to help a builder mate who, quite frankly, is his own worst enemy.

He's bought a 2 bed semi & has extended it to make it 3 bed with a garage, larger kitchen & larger upstairs bathroom, and in the middle of it all has gone bust & lost his business and is on the point of losing the home he's currently living in.

I'm helping-out with wiring & plumbing etc. & have completed the first fix on the electrics. We are getting to the stage of needing a CU and I am planning for a minimum of 12 ways for the house and an additional 4 way board in the garage which will have a small workshop in it.

He, on the other hand, is adamant that he's going to buy a BG 10 way board because "they're a good price"!!!! :banghead:

arn`t they all...lol..

Thats why I never get involved with builders plus tell him to spend the extra ÂŁ20 and get a wylex so he can sleep at night or check the BG board if the test button is bright orange then dont touch it

Well it's a Wylex I have in mind for his job - like the one in my own house which has a main switch & I have stuffed full or RCBOs.
