I was under the impression that amendments to bs 7671 were free (but obviously you would have to update book yourself)

I tried several times but the pdf is password protected?

Yeah kind of get the impression they dont want you to see it now that its gone to print and time for "public comment" expired last September, annoying that they left the download link and you can download it but not unlock it. I could go into a rant here about money grabbing...maybe
someone on this forum managed to download it and save it unlocked and could post it here, failing that the group purchase idea is potentially good

The DPC has undergone massive changes since the public comment period elapsed and Amendment 1 was 'ratified'.

I know where you're coming from with the 'money grabbing' comment but by the time this amendment comes into effect, almost 4 years will have elapsed from the publication of BS 7671:2008.

I don't think that's too bad really considering many of the changes were brought about due to the committment to the Harmonised Document and items that just couldn't be included in BS 7671:2008 due to time constraints.
