Probably all in a days work for a professional electrician but it had me scratching my head. I wanted to fit lighting into a room but there is an en suite on the floor above, as you can see I made a hole in the ceiling and worked from underneath.

I sometimes make a statement that the worst Diy types to perform on domestic electrics are those who "think" they have done a good job because "it works" these people can be deadly

Then there are those who go out of their way to find out the best practice, they may copy what was found, they take pride in having done a job(which is not rocket science) and are left with a safe and cheap install
Just saying

Opps, wish I hadn't put the picture up! Must admit that I've never heard of mf connection boxes so I've learned something. Cable is 1.5 twin core and earth. Junction box will be accessible when the en suite is taken out later on. Used a wiring diagram from my Readers Digest DIY manual.

What sort of response were you expecting?

What did the readers digest manual tell you about the current wiring regulations or even the basics of preventing fire and electric shocks through good design and proper testing?

For me the readers digest manual is just a starting point. I'am not doing any major electrical work and nor would I attempt to design a ring or radial circuit and frankly I find lighting circuits a bit confusing. I can read the current wiring regulations and if i'am not sure get advice from the members on this forum hopefully.
As I do work in my home I constantly come across what I consider bad workmanship, cables as tight as bow stings, cable forced through holes that are to small, cables running through insulation but not in a conduit. All I would assume done by a professional.
I buy good quality products from a reputable local supplier, ask questions if i'am not sure and most importantly know my limitations.

PS in the light of what I've learned from this forum intend to re do the work in the WC.
