Hi all

Been asked to quote for a board change. Had a quick look round the place and discovered lighting circuit has no earth. Where do I stand on this?

Current board is 3036s and will be replacing with rcbos as wiring is quite old. Will also be bonding the gas and water from 4mm to 10mm.

lighting circuit is ok as long as it doesn't have any class 1 fittings or switches on it reconnect it to new consumer unit and make note on certificate

That's what I think as well, but I notice that the Best Practice Guide is a little more flexible than that if the customer refuses to replace Class I fittings or rewire the circuit / install a protective conductor, maybe a little too flexible?

The esc cu guide actually allows you to fit a new consumer unit even with metal unearthed fittings

as long as they are not outside or within reach of any extraneous conductive parts

but you must perform an IR test between the live terminal and the meatallic casing of the fitting i think if memory serves correct?

The ESC is not in a position to allow or forbid anyone to do anything. It is a guide.

Are you sure? What would that prove, other than it was not live when you tested it?

Would recommend if you post somthing like this, that backing it up with a link to the approprate documentation would help.
