Hi all

Been asked to quote for a board change. Had a quick look round the place and discovered lighting circuit has no earth. Where do I stand on this?

Current board is 3036s and will be replacing with rcbos as wiring is quite old. Will also be bonding the gas and water from 4mm to 10mm.

Firstly - misunderstanding page 6 does not apply as that is not what was being referred to.

And I owe the OP an apology as, rereading, he seems to disagree with the advice on page 9 as well.

It is very poor advice as is usual in these guides.
What difference does IR >1MΩ make to the danger of unearthed exposed-conductive-parts.

In any case fitting a new CU will make the installation safer either way.

It's obviously to unsure there's no fault on the light fitting at the time of testing and no chance of an earth path if any future fault developed

I think this deals with real world
Situations quite well actually and is a pretty sensible guide

In practice you would obviously try to earth all fittings or replace with class 2 but as I last resort I think this is acceptable

As said before the installation would be a damn sight safer with a new cu rcds and main bonding rather than an old wylex

I still don't understand how I have seriously misunderstood this guide??
