Boiler in bathroom?

Hi all,

What's the situation if someone wanted the combo boiler fitted above the toilet in a bathroom with a shower?

Chances are it will be in zone 2.

Is it not allowed or is it acceptable if it's boxed in?

Would the FCU need to be in the loft or outside bathroom if it was boxed in?

Are you allowed a gas boiler in a bathroom? I'm thinking about from a gas point of view, air flow, fumes etc likely hood of an extractor fan being installed.

I think boilers have come on a bit since you last looked... lol
Room sealed balanced flue being the majority these days to avoid ventilation holes knocked in the walls. So long as the installation enviroment complies with MI's minimum requirement, your good to go.

It depends on what the manufacturers instructions say.

That said, in one of my previous houses I fitted it inside an airing cupboard in the bathroom.

The cupboard had full height louvred doors so there was enough ventilation to keep the electronics of the boiler happy and as it was a room-sealed appliance there wasn't an issue from a gas point of view, air flow, fumes etc

is it in the plumbers guide for dummies, the one that says all the pipes at the boiler must be cross-bonded when they're all electrically bonded anyway?

Haha.. Over here in the Isle of Man we have 2 football leagues which consist of the 1st teams and the second teams (which are known as the 'combi' teams), there was one player whose missus attended every match and she was known as the Combi Boiler

OK got battered there ( still hurts) but hey, thats why I'm not a plumber. Yes your right boilers have come on a long way. I can remember a new small estate being built years ago having their wall mounted boilers sited in the bathroom. After houses sold and lived in, builders had to come back and move all the boilers to new position at their expense. At the time it was considered unsafe. but I now know differently.

"Years ago" it was lethal because most of the boilers were "open flue" meaning that the air they needed for combustion was taken from the room they were installed in. To cut a long story short it follows that if it can take air from the room then it can also introduce noxious fumes into the room!

Room Sealed appliances and Balanced Flues sorted all of that.
