If you were to do this and then the customer decided not to give you the job, you have effectively spent a couple of hours working for nothing.

He pays you separately for the testing, and if he decides to use some one else you just give him the PIR results.

My preferred option is testing after the cu change with the written understanding that any faults which have to be rectified will be at extra cost.
I would accept though that there are no perfect options both for sparks and client when a simple CU change is complicated by faults.

Perhaps i should have said "some" testing rather than "most", perhaps the pretesting would only consist of checking for lighting shared neutrals ie or anything else that was likely to trip an rcd.

But I do see your point and its nice to have a sensible discussion.

What I mean is if the customer has asked you to price up a CU change, and you turn up with your test gear and spend a couple of hours testing the circuits, is it fair to charge the customer if he decides not to use you as he hasn't asked you to test the circuits, but to give him a quote for the CU change if you get my meaning.

seriously are we on this again, can't we just cut and paste the other 15 page discussion we just had! oxocube you are very argumentative you seem to only contribute posts that will get a reaction/argument. this forum is for advice and general chit chat sharing experiences. not for s**t slinging at each other. And just to finish this off combining 2 lighting circuits in one mcb is not the best option but is acceptable, end of thread.

It's not the end of the thread until Tel says it is....lol

but what about exporting a borrowed neutral.it's OK if you TT it at the other end???????

It does not comply with the regs plain and simple.

And the idea of a forum is to freely discuss and air views, if you don't like what's being discussed go somewhere else. Or should we all wait for your final judgement as in "end of thread", onions has spoken the debate is over. lol

oh no it isn't. at the end of the day, the customer is the one who has to pay for improvements. if he refuses, then you have to do the best you can in the circumstances. putting all the lights on 1 circuit is not ideal, but it's better left safer than what it was. some say the brb is the bible, but it's non-statutory. like the original bible. do you really believe that the earth was created in 7 days, and adam and eve just happened by the hand of God?

Elementary, my dear oxocube, elementary. Methinks thou dost protest too much!

Tel, you forget god is an electrician. He didn't create the world in 7 days. He messed around for 6 and then pulled an all-nighter.
