Hello,

Can anyone tell me please if you can use the figures given in BS7671 cable current carrying capacity when using 12V?

eg- so 1.5 multicore clipped direct can take 19.5A. Is this what the cable can carry for both 12V and 230V- or any other voltage?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris.

Thank you for all the messages. Am new doing a 12v installation within a domestic house 230v. Apart from sticking up recessed down lights. Have done all volt drop calcs etc. When Zs has been mentioned above it reminded me that I will need a circuit breaker. So you get 12v fuses? I guess they must be out there.

B&Q for your 12v fuses

The primary function of a fuse is to limit the current that can flow in the circuit so you select an appropriate fuse according to its rating in Amps.

As long as the voltage rating on the fuse is higher that your circuit voltage it's fine. You can use a fuse with a 500v rating on a 12volt circuit.

This 12v install is oddly off a leisure battery! It is all a bit odd. I have backed off from any 'design' now on this 12v circuit as it is all a bit DIY for my liking.
Any info on anything that I might need to add if using a leisure battery in this install?!
