another mind blank..

2.5mm cable on radial rated at 16A in DB powers 4 sockets in loft area, i have tapped off this supply into 1.5mm cable to power 5x 50 watt downlights, would you install a FCU rated at 3A for the lights or would you be happy leave the 16A MCB as protection..!

the 1.5mm cable is clipped direct to joists and does not come into contact with any insulation so de rating factor has little impact!

3A FCU--Visible and a note on the DB about it--add more lights, etc, always up the fuse, but youre coming off a radial, dont wanna up the chances of Jesse James coming along and adding to it!!!

1.5 is good for 16 amps unless its covered with more that 100mm of insulation then its 13 amps , lighting should have max of 10 amps as the switches are rated at you could get a low resistant fault that draws 3 amps and the switch can over heat and belive you me it does seen it happen , also did a job that had 48 down lighters on one switch and the switch was red hot so as has been said FCU 3 amp fuse and lable DB

dunno- i'd say OCPD protecting cable and switches rated for load being switched

i'm dubious about the use of 5A/10A plug fuses for lighting spurs
