i've recently been called out to a job involving a fault on a RCD that trips when the iron and only the iron is used for half hour to an hour. i've done an IR on everything on that rcd and lowest reading is around 8 meg. i've tried a ramp test and getting 9mA. can anyone suggest something to try please help

thanx for response yeah the irons brand new when they first told me about the problem i recomended a new iron and that was my next attempt was to change the RCD it can't be that simple can it?

Disconnect all that you can then ramp it again , if still low check you have disconnected the immersion . ( normally the fault )
If still low disconnect your out going load cables from the rcd and test if still low with nothing connected to load side it is shagged like DurhamSparky has just said .
There may be a fault on the iron when it gets good and hot , but you defiantly got a fault elsewhere too .
Hope this helps mate

did a box change other week and had to deviate from regs and leave a cooker on non rcd!! appliance was faulty but it worked just not with a rcd!

sometimes they just dont listen no matter how many times you explain . would i be right in thinking if you changed the cooker switch to one without a socket its perfectly within the regs to leave it non-rcd?
