i've recently been called out to a job involving a fault on a RCD that trips when the iron and only the iron is used for half hour to an hour. i've done an IR on everything on that rcd and lowest reading is around 8 meg. i've tried a ramp test and getting 9mA. can anyone suggest something to try please help

If you get an earth leakage clamp meter and make up a test lead, with some of the outer sheath stripped off, you can easily test dodgy appliances for earth leakage, gets rid a lot of the guesswork.

Once many years ago had a call to a tripping RCD turned out to be the brand new washing machine (well week old ),,,,trippeing when washing machine was on spin cycle flex inside had rubbed against side of machine as it wasnt clipped right causing a weeee bare bit didnt show till spinning fast as spin caused movement
another one was great after 4 calls to same house amd loads of testing of both wiring and appliances( days before the great PAT testing machines )we were sent to observe a "Normal day" >>>>
&am lady got up made a coffee for herself
730 made her bed ridden hubby his tea n got him bed bathed ect
830 made herself another cuppa n put on washing on
845 made her man a flask and she went off to work
1130 she arrived home made herself a cuppa
1145 made her man a cuppa n TRIP
we found the fault Nose of kettle was pointing up under the top units causing steam buildup over time this build up was also aon the socket and built up enough moisture to trip the rcd solution Moved kettle no more tripping

sometimes they just dont listen no matter how many times you explain . would i be right in thinking if you changed the cooker switch to one without a socket its perfectly within the regs to leave it non-rcd?

Depending on the installation method of the cableing and it's compliance with 522.6.6
