Can I claim for the day I spend filling out my tax return? | Page 2 | on ElectriciansForums

Discuss Can I claim for the day I spend filling out my tax return? in the Business Related area at ElectriciansForums.net

A friend of mine used to run a business fixing and customising Harley Davidsons.
He used a very local Accountant two doors away from his shop.
That accountant made numerous claims for Tax rebates for all his customers, then buggered off back to Pakistan with the money.
My friend then suffered with 6 years of investigations.

As the title says really :smile5:

If I spend a day completing my tax return can I claim back whatever my day rate is as this is a day that i would be unable to work and is also solely related to the business?

Cheers all..

You have more chance of the Queen claiming for her Annual acid house garden party...!!

You could say that to a DIY'er trying to re-wire their house. Lol!
It's hardly the same thing. A simple tax return is 3 figures, one of which is one subtracted from the other. The argument for using an accountant always seems to be that they know what you can claim for, well a list half the size of a schedule of inspections can tell you that.

Fair enough if your accounts are really complicated, or if your missus is an accountant, but if I can do what someone can do after a free online course to save myself a couple of hundred quid with few additional risks, I think I'll pocket the couple of hundred quid and take my chances.
