Hi,

Basically I'm on my backside for work at the minute and the Mrs's step dad has offered me some work re-wiring a shop. The problem is I'm not part p registered or with a governing body. I am though fully qualified - 17th Edition, 2330 parts 1 & 2 and the 2391.

How would I go about getting the work signed off? Could I complete the first and second fix and then ask another spark to test the installation and certify on completion or could I go directly to the LABC test and certify myself. I'm doing him a favour by going in a fair way cheaper than other sparks who have quoted.

What is the best way of doing this?

Totally agree with telextrix Part P only covers domestic , doesnt mean you dont have to provide a cert as you do im sure you will be aware .you dont have to notify it only thing i will say is make sure you have an upto date PL insurance

agree with nick. liability insurance for underÂŁ100 a year is a must. do an EIC , make sure it's properly tested, there you go.

As ste mac has pointed out, you should first enquire if the installation is metered with any domestic property. If it isn't you're all set. If it is, let us know where you are. Maybe one of us can help you out.

I have this massive respect for the enforcement of part p :D ,or I might have, if there was one prosecution for an installation that was to the standards of Bs7671 and the prosecution was for not notifying, when not registered for the nonsence

AS stated by others, part p is for domestics,a shop may possibly be included as described

So there is a "slight possibility" that you would be doing an installation that had part of that installation covered by a non enforced piece of nonesence

Just get the tools out, and earn the living doing the job you were trained to do, and take with a pinch of salt, this claptrap that electricians have to pay a fee to do their job
