Hi All,

I'm an qualified electrician in a factory. I have my 16th edition regs and will be doing my 17th edition update next week. Next month I will be moving into a house that needs complete renovation. Can I rewire my own house (bring it up to 17th)? if so, what do i need in terms of certificates, building inspector notification, etc... thanks in advance :)

Hi

No reason why you can't re-wire it yourself as long as you are competent. If you aren't registered with a company like NIC or ELECSA etc. then you will have to notify BC. They will then come and inspect your work at different stages of the install to ensure you are following regs. With regards to certificates you will need an EIC accompanied with a Schedule of Test Inspections and a Schedule of Test Results, as this will be a new installation.

Hope this helps:D

Thanks Mark,

On completion, would I be right in saying I would need someone to come in and test the installation? as I don't hold 2391/2?

Hi Gareth

Yes it will have to be inspected, but not sure if BC will do it or whether you have to get another spark out to test it, problem is sparks don't like testing other sparks work, not sure if it's because they're not allowed to or whether they just don't like it, because they would then take responsibility for the install. Best to ask BC when you notify them!:D

You dont have to hold 2391 to test your work, I assume you do it on any installations you carry out in your factory?

Just get BC round
