A friend has asked me if I can fit them a cctv system for their shop. They want 3 cameras 1outside and 2inside this is my first cctv install so was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Is it best to have a separate recorder or pc based. Also any good wholesalers to buy the equipment from. Many thanks!

Hi mate i fit cctv

vista is a good brand of cctv equipment plus you get 5 years on their warrenty

as for the recorder if their is a pc in the shop you can buy i bnc input card which will slot into the pc`s and then you can connect you cameras into that for recording

i would buy i 4 way dvr with a min of 320 gig hard drive space also make sure your static cameras have built in led with will allow them to record at night with adaquate light

also insted of using 2 core power cable and rg 59 for power and picture i would recommend using cat 5e and passive baluns so that you only need to run 1 cable to each camera

quick brake down in price depending on what you have in your spec

1 dvr ÂŁ200
3 med quilty cams ÂŁ220
305 box cat5e ÂŁ32
3 packs of baluns ÂŁ15
1 12volt power surply with 3 1 amp outputs ÂŁ30

the reason i said use baluns is because if its your 1st cctv you wont have cctv tools ie bnc cripms if you go the way i say all you need is a screw driver and snips to terminate all your connections

hope this is what you are after if you want to no anything else please feel free to ask

Good timing this thread, just about to quote for a CCTV job in a quarry.

Can you guys recommend a good supplier too and any help with cable eg armoured/conduit etc as the derv pump location will be about 200 yards from the main office/recorder.

Cheers.

BNC crimps cost me ÂŁ8 and the coax stripper cost me about ÂŁ12 plus VAT and del.
If you want to know where let me know and Ill dig the invoice out. There well worth it as it makes terminating coax a whole lot easier. I used mine for LMR 200 coax if thats any help.

yea Mrskipsy my whole point if you use baluns they have the bnc already on all you need then is a screw driver and sum snips plus its faster way to install cctv projects and you can iget the cctv pictures and power and if you are using a ptz camera you can also take drive the data down the same cable instead of using ( coax 2core and belden ) these 3 cables for 100m will be around 40 quid a box of cat5e belden 33 plus you get 305 m per box and its faster to clip

hope this helps baluns are the best way to fit cctv you can bring back 4 pictures on one cable

It's hard to say at that price I myself would not buy any as in the past I have had hard drive errors with low end recorders I fit high end networked dvr's so that they can be viewed from monitring stations

I will post a site 2 morrow with a link for the low end dvr's but I myself would only fit units for around ÂŁ400 as I have found them to be more stable

Requards mike

here you go the link for cheap dvr`s enjoy System Q Ltd
